P.U.

What manners Cayden has.
He will be the first to call you out when you burp, or "toot".

"Excuse you, Ivy."
"P.U. Dad."

PRK

Kele is getting his eye surgery tomorrow. It is called Photorefractive keratectomy laser vision correction. It is different than lasik because they "reshape" your eye, pretty much shave off part of your cornea.
He is not nervous at all. Why am I more nervous than he is? He has all his drugs in line. Percocet, vicoden, and about 5 different eye drops he (or better, I) gets to put in his eye 4 times a day.
Katie is here to babysit Cayden while I wait in the office for him. Say a prayer, will ya?

Zoooooo

We have the coolest zoo down here in the Springs!! I got a pass because we like to go a lot for playdates, plus I can get a guest in for free every time. Kel and I took C on Tuesday, we were the first ones thru the gate and beat the crowds the whole morning.

Palmer Lake

On Monday night we went to walk around Palmer Lake, which is about 5 minutes from our house. It is nothing like Webster Lake, but it was fun. There were lots of boats on the lake with people water-skiing, so that was entertaining. The people were interesting to say the least. It was a good time, plus who doesn't love a walk around a lake with your family? =)

Claw

The other night while we were sleeping, I heard a very loud crash. I got up to see what was going on, and saw that Chopper was in the middle of murdering a moth. Fiiiiine with me, I HATE those things and all the dust that falls off them when they fly around. The next morning when I got up to use the bathroom, it took my eyes a minute to figure out what I was looking at.
Thanks a lot, Moth. And Chopper. I am reminded of you every day when I go into the bathroom and look at your cute little claw hole.

Woof woof

I love having this dog. I think I keep waiting for her to get hyper or chew something up or upset me, but she hasn't. Ivy is happy doing whatever! She gets in her kennel whenever I tell her and doesn't make a peep. She lets C crawl on her and play with her ears, she lays down when I tell her, sits patiently in the car looking out the window, loves going on walks and is getting better on the leash, and loves to just lay by your feet and watch tv with you. I said I wanted a calm dog who doesn't ask for much, and I don't think I could've found a better match.

Now that she is finally all healthy (knock on wood), she is such a sweet greatful dog.

Splash Park

I just found out that there are a couple of awesome little splash parks close by us! They are more than just typical fountains squirting out of the ground, there are fun water sprayers all over. Kele and I went to take Cayden to one in Fountain, CO last week, but it was closed for maintance. Bummer. Then I found one online that is like 2minutes from us! Katie stayed the weekend with us and Cayden had a blast running around in the water with her!

Green Chili recipe

From the time I can remember, my Grandma Irene (Weenie) has made thee BEST green chili. They go down to Pueblo, CO once a year and get fresh roasted chili peppers. The first time Kele tried it, he was hooked. My Mom's is delish, Aunt Lisa's is delish, and Uncle Victor's is up there with Weenie's. Kele and I tweeked the recipe a bit and finally have it perfected.

Ingredients:
-1 lb chopped up pork
-1 can of diced tomatoes (or fresh if you are so inclined)
-1/4 of a large onion
-1/2c Flour
-1 can of beef broth
-roasted green chilis (you can find these in the frozed section at Walmart, or can roast anaheim peppers and peel and chop them yourself)
-1 tsp minced garlic
-1/2 cup souther style hashbrowns

Cut up your pork and brown it in a large pan with your garlic. Once it is no longer pink, add your flour and brown for a few minutes. Add tomatoes, onion and green chili peppers and simmer for 10 minutes. Add beef broth and hashbrowns, bring to a boil then lower your heat. Cover and simmer on low for another 25 minutes.

We like to cook a can of pinto beans and mash them up with shredded cheese, and have bean burritos. You could serve with nachos, beef burritos, chili rellanos (another recipe for another time!), tacos.. you can pretty much smother anything mexican (or not mexican.. fries, hamburgers?)!

When you adopt a pooch from the humane society, they give you a voucher for a free exam, free spay/neuter (if they aren't already snipped), and free rabies exam, blah blah. You have 5 days to redeem it. On top of that, Ivy has kennel cough! Yay! I scheduled her appointment for Tuesday, but had to reschedule it because Kele had an optometry appointment at the same time and couldn't be here to watch Cayden. So I scheduled it for the same time Wednesday. Turns out, Kele couldn't be home again because work was swamped. Ok, no problem. I could handle taking Cayden.
I will leave the name of this office out of it, because that isn't fair.... We get to the office with about 5 minutes to spare. As soon as I load Cayden into his stroller and get Ivy on her leash and by my side, I notice I have about 4 steps to trek up. What a sight! Trying to lift the stroller with a dog dragging me up (thanks for the help doggy! Ha!). Then the door is RIGHT at the end of the stairs, which makes it even more hard to open it with all the open hands that I already have. Finally get it, and notice the two girls sitting at the front desk were just watching. Thanks for the help, right? I stand there for a minute before they acknowledge me and have a seat in the waiting room to wait. She takes us back and tells us to wait, then in walks Dr. P. I understand why he works with animals, and not people. He is about as dry as the bottom of my feet. (Gross, sorry). But really, no personality at all. Either that, or he was not happy to see us. Or maybe it was because Cayden didn't like him right off the bat. Anyways, he gets to the point of the visit (sorta), and leaves.. I was still a little lost. It took about 30 seconds. Instead of giving me meds for her cough, he wanted to "keep her" and take chest xrays. Do I look like a freaking millionaire?? No thanks buddy, just give us the pills. I get back up the the counter and the girl asks what we did, and I tell her I have no idea. She finally asks for her paperwork and notices that it was a humane society exam (duh, wasn't that the point of this visit???) and then notices she has kennel cough (another reason for the visit).
Girl: "Does she have kennel cough?"
Me: "Yes."
Girl: "Oh, you are going to have to take her outside in your car."
Me: "Right now??"
Girl: "Yes, its very contageous."
Me: Look at Cayden, look at the dog, look at the door, look at the stairs, look at the girl.
I had to take Cayden out of his stroller, let Ivy drag us out to the car, force her to get in the car while holding a toddler hand in the middle of a parking lot..get in the car to open the windows (it was over 80 degrees at this point) while still holding the hand of a unwilling toddler...
Great.
Why didn't I just tell her, do they tell you to wait outside when you go to the doctor sick? Isn't that usually the point of the vet???
Whatever.
We head back into the office and say a quick prayer that she jumps doesn't jump out the open window.
When she doesn't give us our paperwork back, I ask where our free voucher for the rabies shot was at. She tells me it is in her file. Well why didn't we get the stupid shot today? Oh, you know. She didn't "think" you could have the shot while on meds. You mean I have to go back???? I make sure to point it out that I was NOT about to pay another $37 office visit for a free shot. I made an appointment to go back for the shot next week when she is off her meds. She asks if I would like to see Dr. P again. I just laughed!! Out loud!! And said, not perferrably..
Wish us luck as we go back there (MINUS Cayden, let me point that out) next week. And I dare them to try and charge me.
